Paving the Pickaway County Seat

Circleville has an unusual history for a paving job: the town was laid out in 1810 inside a circular Hopewell earthwork about 1,100 feet across. Asphalt paving in Circleville today works on the grid that replaced that circle, since residents asked the state to change the plan and by the mid-1850s the town had been converted to straight streets. The city sits along the Scioto River about 25 miles south of Columbus and has been the Pickaway County seat since the county was formed in 1810. We replace and resurface driveways, patch and seal asphalt, and pave and stripe lots for Circleville homes and businesses.

Older blocks near downtown

The grid near the center holds many older homes with alleys, rear garages and short driveways. Some of those drives were paved decades ago over little or no stone base. When they crack across the full width or sink at the garage, we remove the old asphalt, place and compact new stone and repave. Where the base is still sound, a resurfacing overlay is a cost-effective way to get a new surface.

River ground

The Scioto runs along the west side of town. Properties on lower ground near the river can have softer, wetter soil, which needs a thicker base and good drainage to support a driveway. We look at where water goes on your lot during the estimate and build the slope into the job.

Business and church lots

As a county seat, Circleville has government offices, churches, shops and restaurants with lots that see steady traffic. For those owners we offer:

  • Pothole repair and saw-cut patching
  • Mill-and-overlay for worn surfaces
  • Sealcoating and crack filling on a schedule
  • Restriping of stalls, arrows, crosswalks and accessible spaces

We can split a lot into sections so it stays open while we work.

Newer homes outside the old grid

Neighborhoods on the edges of town usually have driveways that are still structurally sound. Crack filling before winter and sealcoating every few years are the best investments for those drives. We will tell you honestly if your driveway does not need anything yet.

Getting the most from an older lot

On a long-established property, not every square foot needs the same work. We often find a driveway or lot where one section has failed, another is worn but solid and a third is in good shape. Rather than charge for a full replacement, we can cut out and rebuild the failed section, overlay the worn part and sealcoat the rest so the whole surface matches. The written estimate lays out each piece so you can see what you are paying for.

Circleville Questions

My older Circleville driveway is sinking at the garage. Can it be patched?

A small area can be. If the whole drive is cracked across and settled, the base has failed, and replacing it with new compacted stone lasts longer.

Do you pave church and business lots in Circleville?

Yes. We patch, overlay, sealcoat and stripe commercial and church lots and phase the work to keep them open.

How often should a newer driveway be sealcoated?

Most residential driveways do well with sealcoating every few years, plus crack filling before winter.
