Hilliard Driveways, Old and New
Asphalt paving in Hilliard covers two very different kinds of property. Hilliard grew around a station on the Piqua and Indiana Railroad that shipped farm products to market, and it stayed a small farm town until three large residential subdivisions went up in the 1950s. Sewer and water hookups followed in the 1960s, and growth has continued outward ever since. Today the city is bordered by Columbus, Upper Arlington and Dublin, with open farmland still to the west. We replace driveways, resurface, patch, sealcoat and pave lots across all of it.
Mid-century lots near the old town
Homes from the 1950s and 1960s subdivisions often have driveways that are narrower than today's cars need, and many have been patched or overlaid more than once. The pavement may look fine from the street while the base below is thin or mixed with clay. When we see cracking that runs across the whole drive, sunken wheel paths or a broken apron, we usually recommend a tear-out. That lets us dig to firm soil, place a new compacted stone base and pave at the width you want. Widening a single-car drive to fit two cars side by side is one of the most common requests we get on these lots.
Newer homes toward the west
Neighborhoods built more recently, closer to the farmland edge, usually have driveways that are still structurally sound. The best value there is maintenance: fill cracks before winter, sealcoat on a regular cycle and fix small problems before they spread. A driveway that gets that care can last far longer than one that is left alone until it fails.
Between Big Darby Creek and the Scioto
Geographically, the Hilliard area lies between Big Darby Creek on the west and the Scioto River on the east. Ground between two watersheds is generally flat, which means drainage has to be built in rather than left to nature. On every job we set the slope so water moves off the driveway toward the street or a yard drain, and we look at where downspouts discharge. Water that pours onto asphalt from a gutter all spring is one of the quickest ways to wear out a section of pavement.
Commercial lots along the main roads
Hilliard's business corridors include small plazas, offices, churches and service shops whose lots take heavy daily traffic. We handle pothole repair, saw-cut patches, mill-and-overlay, sealcoating and restriping. Large jobs can be split into phases so part of the lot stays open while the rest is worked on.
How to get started
Call (614) 963-2681 or send the estimate form with your address and a short description. We will look at the driveway or lot, explain what we see, and give you a written estimate. If the work touches the apron or curb, we check what the city requires first.

Hilliard Questions
Can you widen my narrow Hilliard driveway?
Yes. On many 1950s and 1960s lots we remove the old drive, extend the stone base and pave it wide enough for two cars, as long as setbacks and any city rules allow it.
How do I know if my driveway base has failed?
Look for connected cracking in the wheel paths, soft or sunken spots and edges that break off. Those point to a base problem. Scattered thin cracks on an otherwise firm surface usually do not.
Do you repair parking lots for Hilliard businesses?
Yes. We patch, overlay, sealcoat and restripe, and we schedule in phases so customers can still park.
