Westerville Pavement Between Two Creeks

Westerville sits on the land between Big Walnut Creek and Alum Creek, where native cultures and later settlers made their homes, and asphalt paving here is shaped by that creek-side setting. Lots near either creek tend to see more ground moisture, and that moisture works on the stone base under a driveway year after year. We pave new driveways, resurface ones with a sound base, repair cracks and potholes, sealcoat, and handle parking lots and striping for Westerville businesses.

Reading a creek-side driveway

When a driveway sits on damp ground, the failure usually starts underneath. Water sits in the base, freezes in winter and lifts the surface, then the thaw leaves a soft spot. Repeated over enough winters, that shows up as a network of small connected cracks, often called alligator cracking, and a dip where cars park. Sealcoat will not fix that. The fix is to cut out the failed area, dig down to firm ground, add and compact new stone, and repave. If the failure covers most of the drive, a full replacement is the better value.

Where the base is still sound and the problem is a worn, gray, cracked surface, an overlay or a round of crack filling and sealcoating can add years for much less money. We will tell you which one your driveway actually needs.

Close to the city's water supply

Hoover Dam, just outside Westerville, holds back Big Walnut Creek. The reservoir behind it stores 20.8 billion gallons and covers 3,272 acres, about five square miles, and it is a major source of water for Columbus. The dam was started in 1953. Because runoff in this area drains toward that water supply, we keep sealcoat and cleanup materials off storm drains and out of the gutters during every job.

Older streets and the 1995 annexation

Westerville annexed 941 acres to its north in 1995, so the city now includes both long-established blocks near its historic center and neighborhoods built in the decades since. Older homes often have narrow, single-width driveways or ones that were overlaid more than once, which raises the surface until it sits above the garage slab or the sidewalk. Lifting the old layers out before repaving can fix that lip. Newer homes in the north usually have wider drives that are at the right age for their first sealcoat or first crack repair.

Westerville Questions

My older Westerville driveway sits higher than my garage floor. Can that be fixed?

Yes. That lip usually comes from several overlays stacked over the years. We can mill or remove the old layers so the new surface meets the garage slab and sidewalk at the right height.

Is sealcoating enough for my driveway?

Only if the base is sound. Sealcoat protects a good surface from sun and water. It does not fix alligator cracking or soft spots, which need repair first.

Do you stripe parking lots in Westerville?

Yes. We lay out and repaint stalls, arrows, fire lanes and accessible spaces, usually right after sealcoating or new paving.
